WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO BOSTON
Words & Music by
Jim Rainho
I just arrived in Boston this
morning,
Right away I detected something strange.
Someone took the Boston I knew , and tried to built it anew,
I couldn't recognize it for the change.
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO BOSTON?
I think they've even lost Scollay Square,
I looked all over Boston,
But I couldn't find it anywhere.
In my mind I still remember old Boston,
And the bars where I used to go,
So where are the old places, and old familiar faces,
By the way, where is the Old Howard Burlesque Show?
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO BOSTON?
They've done about everything it seems,
And now I've heard they're even,
Gonna get rid of Boston cod and Boston baked beans
All the pretty girls I kissed in Boston,
I wonder if they still remember me.
So I'll look around some more, but one think is for sure,
They sure know how to hurt a guy's memory.
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO BOSTON?
The buildings now reach clear up to the sky,
I guess you can call it progress,
Cause the skirts on Beacon Hill are just as high.
I guess I'll be leaving Boston
this evening,
But an old memory lingers with me still
I wonder if someday, I'll wander back this way,
But for old time sake I guess that I will
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO BOSTON?
It just doesn't look quite the same,
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO BOSTON?
All that's left now is the name.
------added lyrics
In my mind I still remember old Boston,
And the Garden where the Bruins do still play.
The Hillbilly Ranch is gone, but Boston lingers on,
And the Red Sox are still at ole Fenway.
Oh WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO BOSTON?
To drive here you have to go underground,
Copley Square is still here, I've been told,
And so is the North End part of town.
